today i am wearing a “george” t-shirt (this time black).

people have been starring at it all day. you know what they want to ask, “is your t-shirt a political statement?”

it certainly creates great dialogue!

less than a year…

Thursday, September 27th, 2007

today i have come to grips that i am getting a little older. already my son is running circles around me (yes, he is running…uuhh, never mind).

george is somewhat getting into a sleeping routine…i guess we can call a routine when he sleeps more than 2 hour stints, w/o waking up, at night.

i’m also realizing that i have less than a year left before i turn the big 30! my wife keeps asking if i want a surprise party for my 30th. although, is it really a surprise when you concede to have one? (babe, how about a nap for my 30th?)

anyways, below is a picture of some good friends of ours Scott and Amanda Hodge. we are at a restaurant eating for kathryn’s 30th, after she experienced her 30th b-day scavenger hunt.

how was your 30th?

sorry for the delay

i haven’t posted for the last couple of days because apparently someone hacked my system. no worries though, thanks to my good friend scott and rockstar blogger anne jackson, it seems to be fixed.

at any rate, i will be posting more pics shortly of little george.

so what’s been going on the last couple of days, well:

> working on my 3 eulogies for class

> reading up on materials set forth for a training course in tulsa, called servant leadership

> watching some odd oozy stuff come out of my son’s eye (blocked tear duct)

> reflecting on how thankful i am to have a beautiful and loving wife

> my car is in the shop (or i should say kathryn’s car is in the shop)…$$$$

> loving anne’s post

what’s been going on with your week?

    creepy crawlies

    Friday, September 21st, 2007

my mother-in-law was walking from the living room to the kitchen a couple of nights ago, and there it was, a HUGE spider starring her down, not budging.

i jumped up from the coach and there it was, now, starring me down…  so like any smart male I grabbed the closest object, kathryn’s shoe.  then, the spider realized that he had met his match.  (then i heard the oddest soundtrack from the good, the bad and the uglyclint eastwood eat your heart out!)

the spider juked to the left, then went to the right (moves likened to the late barry sanders), running frantically to the nearest crevasse or corner he could find.  i cornered him and took one swat at the huge critter.  nothing happened…just starred me down!  two swats!!  the spider invariably met his match (puma’s size 6 1/2).

then i did what any noble person would do.  i gave him a proper burial.  i flushed him down the toilet.

george watched on as i tamed, or crushed in this case, the ginormous spider creature.

    eulogy

    Thursday, September 20th, 2007

i’m taking a great class right now called, dynamics/leading organizations.  the assignment i was given, due next week, has caused me to be very reflective about my life in the present, but also in the future.

    the assignment is this…

WRITE 3 EULOGIES THAT WILL BE GIVEN AT YOUR DEATH, ASSUMING THAT YOU LIVE INTO AN OLD AGE (one from each of the following perspectives):

    • family member (i’m doing it from george’s perspective)
    • co-worker
    • friend

    great assignment!  very timely!

let me ask you: what would you WANT people to say about you at your death?

the 3 “worst” words ever, pt 2

    Monday, September 17th, 2007

as i mentioned yesterday, the 3 “worst” words ever in human existence are the words, some assembly required.

while piecing this closet together, i recalled a book i read a few years ago, and re-read more recently.  the book is by john ortberg (who i consider to be the michael jordan of writing) entitled, if you want to walk on the water, you have to get out of the boat.

ortberg says that he too struggles with these words, some assembly required.  he says:

usually when i think i have it put together there seems to be numerous parts left over - laying sadly alone and disconnected on the carpet. i always felt bad for these parts. they had no role to play, no chance to make the team. i always figured someone at the factory slipped up and put useless parts in the package – spare parts.

this is not how god works. he does not make spare parts. you are not a spare part. you have a purpose – a design that is central to god’s dream for the human race.

    well said john…

isn’t it true though?  you see, i buy into this idea that each one of us are on purpose.  we matter.  we have significance.

so maybe…maybe, this week when you wake up in the morning or when you go to bed, remind yourself that you are not a spare part, a meaningless after thought…that in the mind of god, he believes YOU are ON PURPOSE.

what if you bought into this idea, what would your world look like?
